H.R.Giger's Guestbook!

Here are the comments from May'96!

guten tag! i've been here before, and will be here again. i told my sister, jen, in hawaii about this fantastic site. she wanted me to tell you, Mr. Giger, that she loves your work, and had one of your illustrations (sort of an ethereal, holocost-thin faerie woman) tattooed on her back. we both look forward to your future projects. thank you for opening the door to our imaginations. sincerely -

I have been a Giger fan since I can remember. After seeing some of Giger's work about 12 years ago, I decided to begin airbrushing as well. Now, 12 years later, I have much improved, but must give credit where it is deserved... H.R. Giger is a spectacular artist, and I hope only the best for him. P.S. I think the "alien" should have been left how it WAS...

Thank you for your contributions to art. I own a poster of Isis from Necromicon which my best friend Paul had transfer-mounted to canvas. When he died in December, his family offered it to me as it was his most treasured possession. Ever since "Alien" we have admired your work. Do you ever visit the Los Angeles area? If so can you notify me by e-mail please? ----Eli

I paint pictures myself, and it is also very surreal. After reading your books Necronomicon 1 o 2, Giger Alien, i testet the airbrush myself, and i also find it to be more direkt than oil brush work. I try not to make my pictures look like yours but i is hard now, because my "visions" is quite like yours. Actualy i had dreams that was like some pictures of you even before i knew who you were. But again i would like to thank you for inspiration. Pierre Ståhlgren

I fell in love with Alien the moment it hit the screens and have loved HRG's artwork ever since. The alien creature(s) are not only terrifying and perfect in their visual presence but the concepts behind them (their "life cycles", evolution, etc) are all well thought out to make them realistic, and therefore all the more fantastique! Disappointed with the final shots of Sil in Species though, HRG can't really (yet) be put into computer generated 3D form, computers aren't subtle enough for the realism to come through. HRG is a trully unique individual with an incredibly unique gift. Many have tried to imitate his style but have never come close. HRG, thank you and Blessed Be. ·S·

Uncannily familiar to me, Herr Giger, your images have fascinated me since I was a kid and had to sneak into the local theatre to see the first Alien movie. Disturbing though they are, they have never caused me nightmares, but my dreams gets me weird looks when I tell friends about them. Even my girlfriend started to wonder when I told her of matresses slithering in the living room in the dead of night, trying to steal our piano. I can only join the chorus of the many who have great trouble expressing with words the feelings they have for your work. Someday I hope to have a LARGE poster of the cover of Necronomicon I on the wall. If H.P. Lovecraft (your litterary equivalent, IMHO) was alive today, I believe he would have marvelled at your dark visions, inspiring him deeply. And the cold winds of Leng would blow once again... "I have seen the dark universe yawning" comes to mind. Thank you for a truly great reason to surf the net, and may your vision never falter. I.E.S.

I think your work is incredible! I am a Fine Art major at Florida Atlantic University and would like to get into special effects. I am required to give a report on a working artist and I chose you. Herr Giger: The website is wonderful. I have been a fan for many years. Unfortunately, here in America, your work isn't so easy to come by. I do own several books and a few autographed, limited edition prints, though. I purchased them through Morpheus. If it weren't for them, I don't know where I'd find your paintings and books. One day I hope to make it to Europe to see your work in person. Hell, maybe I'll get lucky and catch it in New York or Los Angeles. Anyway, I just wanted you to know what an inspiration your work has been to me. You, along with a handful of others, have had a great influence on the direction my writing has taken. If I've gotten anything from your work, I guess the strongest message would be: Never compromise yourself. Never censor yourself. Believe in yourself and in your dreams...and be a little afraid of both. Love and health to you, Herr Giger. May all your dreams be dark ones... Your friend from America, Philip Hinkle

Nightmares. You have brought me the most delicious nightmare. Hallucinations entwined in flesh and blood... feasting my eyes on these wounds. Your work as carved my skin with it's incredible power of fascination for years. Words melt as I try to express the respect I have for the artist you are... Your work is great. Since I was a kid I have looked at your paintings in magazines with a great deal of excitement and fear. I grew out of the fear but the mystery is still there. Your work is beautiful and your influence was a contributing factor in me becoming a painter myself. I want to thank you for all your hard work! I also have a confession to make, I have stolen some of your techniques and applied them to my own work. I live in the Canadian arctic with the Inuit (Eskimos). Some of the techniques I see in your paintings translate really well into the traditional caribou skin clothing worn here. I spent a long time figuring out how to render this texture and it had been sitting under my nose for years. Thanks again.

to giger, i love your work, it is the best! i am majoring in drawing/ printmaking, but can only dream of ever becoming half as good as you are. You have become one of my inspirations. I do have to say though that i believe your book is cursed {the one by taschen }because three times now i have had in my backpack because somebody asked to borrow it and have had a pop can leak from a tiny whole like a pin would make but i could never figure out where the hole came from. so i can only assume that it has a spell or something and now i never take it out of the house [i have looked throught it so many times that the pages are falling out anf i have to keep it in a folder. ... well i could go on and on but i know that lots of people probally write almost the same thing so i won't but i really do look up to you.... love, christie maxwell

Hi HR Giger! Trotzdem - Geil ! Biomechanoid (mein Lieblingsbild), Li, LiII) ? Das waers eigentlich. Ein begeisterter Fan Klaus S.

Exciting website! Can we have more pictures from the Necronomicon or earlier? Also, is Mr. Giger familiar with the designs of the artist Roland Topor, who designed the stage settings for Gyorgy Ligeti's opera 'Le Grande Macabre'? If not, he would find them engaging. Any change of Mr. Giger applying his imagination to stage set design? Regards, Graham H.

I have long been a tremendous fan of M. Giger's work, having been introduced to him by a friend of mine who for years has followed in a similar biomechanical style. Giger's work is so impressive to me - so revolutionary and strangely beautiful beautiful that I believe that in his work I see a true glimpse into the future in art and craft. It is utterly exciting to have access to his work through the Internet: as a matter of fact this visit is more business than pleasure in that I am completing a critical review of his work as I speak for a computer animation class of mine. Best wishes and continued success to the artist.......

I have long admired Mr. Giger¹s art and I am very glad to see this site on the Web. It is beautifully done. My favorite author is H.P. Lovecraft, and much of Mr. Giger¹s work is very evocative of Lovecraftian themes. I wonder, does Mr. Giger have any plans to interpret any speciÞc Lovecraft tales? A graphic novel of, say, ŒThe Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath¹ or perhaps ŒAt the Mountains of Madness¹ would be a dream come true for me. I have several of Mr. Giger¹s art books, and I have found that listening to certain music whilst viewing the books can be somewhat mind altering, almost hallucinogenic. Music groups that are very extreme sonicly Þt nicely in with Mr. Giger¹s otherworldly visions. I usually listen to either avant jazz artists such as Kaspar Brøtzmann or so-called ³noise² groups like Skullþower or Splintered. Sometimes I feel like I¹m in another reality, and that is paying Mr. Giger a compliment of the highest regard.

This work almost defies words.. it is deeply moving; to have looked upon the work of H.R. Geiger is to have seen into the hidden portions of one's own mind! The work awakens buried feelings and evokes strong emotions. It is utterly breath taking.

H.R. Giger's art defies words, which is what art must do. I am a musician, and Giger's art always inspires me. If only my talent were 1/1000th of Giger's... I would love to own an original piece, and a piece of furniture in particular. Alas, I don't earn that much money in 5 years. Giger's work is amazing.

I think your works are GREAT! You're not exactly mainstream here in Norway, so the only work of you I've gotten hold of is that published by Taschen. It's a shame the DUNE project failed, your work on that looks great! I was also fascinated by Species, and particulary the nightmare train, which I recognized from one of your earlier works (don't recall the title). Keep on!

I once read that the inspiration for much of your art comes from dreams and nightmares. Is this true? If so, I would not trade dreams with you. As always your work continues to be unique . . . continue. Thranx.

Your visions inhabit my nightmares, if not my subconscious. I thoroughly respect your work, and feel that subject matter in art should not be constrained to those things which we understand. Thank you for being powerfully evocative. One suggestion, though. No more "made for movie" monsters. Somehow the true purpose of your work doesn't translate well on film (except for the first Alien film). If you have a mailing list, please sign me up. Jeff

Hi H.R. Cool site ! I've been living in Taiwan for the past 10y. (I come from Martigny, Vs) I've got a picture of Li on my wall at the office (the one with the three skulls and the snake).
